The Huwei Iron Bridge, also known as the Society Iron Bridge or Huxi Iron Bridge, is located over the Huwei River next to the Huwei Sugar Factory Park in Huwei Town, Yunlin County. Funded by the Great Japan Sugar Manufacturing Company and designed by a British engineer, it was constructed in 1907 (the 40th year of the Meiji era) over the Huwei River near the Huwei Sugar Factory Park.
Before the Japanese occupation period, it was merely a temporary bridge built with bamboo structures for cross-river travel. During the Japanese occupation period, to facilitate the construction of the sugar factory, it was rebuilt with wood to serve as a bridge for transporting sugarcane by train. Later, due to the development needs of the sugar factory, it was reconstructed into the current Huwei Iron Bridge as seen today.
