Taiwan National Palace Museum Southern Branch (ZhiMei Bridge)

2026.1.6 BRIDGE LIGHTING

The ZhiMei Bridge is located next to the National Palace Museum Southern Branch in Taibao City, Chiayi County, Taiwan, spanning over the Zhishan Lake. It serves as the entrance landscape bridge to the museum's southern branch area. The bridge is 141.74 meters long, with the highest point of its arch reaching 17.5 meters. The bridge structure is black and curves in an arc, resembling a crescent-shaped wooden comb. Its design adopts the "cursive script" style of Chinese calligraphy, reflecting the museum's architectural concept inspired by calligraphy. The bridge guides visitors into the National Palace Museum Southern Branch with its rhythmic and dynamic momentum while providing a unique and comfortable walking experience.

This large black landscape bridge harmonizes with the museum's architecture, incorporating the flowing and elegant lines of cursive script in calligraphy. To avoid affecting the original waterproofing effect of the lakebed, the ZhiMei Bridge does not have piers. Instead, it is composed of arch ribs of varying heights, forming a 140-meter-long, large-span single-arch bridge. If you look down at the bridge deck, you will find intricate patterns inspired by bronze ware, showcasing thoughtful and creative design.
